The Blessing of the Fleet & Seafood Festival began in 1987 to support and honor the local shrimping and fishing industry in Charleston. Overlooking beautiful Charleston Harbor the festival is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year for seafood lovers!
Beginning on Sunday, April 28th at Waterfront Park and Pier, come on out and enjoy festival as well as the food and live music with Southwood and East Coast Party Band!
The Blessing of the Fleet and Seafood Festival has grown into a destination. Enjoy the boat parade and ceremonial blessing of the shrimping and fishing fleet, as well as savory seafood sold by some of Mount Pleasant's favorite restaurants, live music, an arts/crafts show, shag dancing and shrimp-eating contests, and family-friendly activities. Fleet Week includes a host of other events that occur in the week leading up to the Blessing like cooking demonstrations, a shag dancing lesson, marine-themed painting lessons and more.
The festival begins with music and the blessing procession takes place on the pier leading to the Parade of Boats. A ceremonial blessing is offered as boat captains navigate Charleston Harbor past thousands of spectators assembled on the 1,250-foot pier. Residents and visitors from all over the country come to cheer them on for a safe and bountiful season.
“The festival celebrates and supports local shrimpers and fishermen who are an important part of our town’s heritage,” said Nicole Harvey, special events planner.
