Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, February 29, 2012

For something unique and different to do, head out to the Wine and Food Festival in Charleston. The annual Charleston Wine + Food Festival, March 1-4, is a celebration of excellence in food, wine and Charleston’s renowned culture for the benefit of local charities.

Indulge in the unique flavors of the Lowcountry from some of the country’s best chefs, see renowned authors and wine professionals. You’ll learn about—and get to taste—the best Southern cuisine and the Lowcountry’s distinctive food styles, heritage, and recipes at various events and venues throughout the weekend.

There are so many events. But our favorite ticket is the Culinary Village + Grand Tasting Tent ticket. With this ticket, guests will find over 90 food, wine and spirit stations blended together, an open-air courtyard and an official Festival merchandise boutique (during their selected Grand Tasting Tent session) PLUS all-day, unlimited access to the BB&T Lounge, Charleston Cooks! Book Signing Tent, the Palmetto Cheese Culinary Hub, Thermador Cooking Competitions, SCE&G Celebrity Kitchen Tent, Stock Yards Angus Beef and Sterling Silver’s Outdoor Living + Grilling Area and  Whole Foods Market Wine Shop. Charleston Hosts Wine & Food Festival!

Wine tasting, all in a glass

Festivals of any sort are always fun to head to. Whatever it may involve, be it music, food, wine, art, kids activities, or any host of other things, festivals are a great way to spend your day. When the weather takes a turn for the better, allowing individuals to head outside, this can make an outdoor festival all the more better. You’re getting a healthy dose of your natural surroundings, on top of partaking in whatever event is being offered.

Locally for me, there’s an awesome jazz festival which takes place annually. From my early teens, until now I’ve tried to make it a point to head out to this Memorial Day weekend event, as it provides a day of rest, relaxation, and great music. Vendors abound, selling artwork, pieces of jewelry, and great food. With this backdrop, to great jazz being provided, this outdoor festival is always a fun one to attend.

For residents of The Abberly at West Ashley, between March 3rd-6th, Charleston will host the annual Charleston Wine & Food Festival. According to the event’s website, for four days straight treat yourself to cooking demonstrations, wine tastings, and a wide assortment of food. With the recent change in weather, along with the picturesque backdrop of the Charleston area this is definitely day of many events which should not be missed.

For more information head here, and have a great time.

At the Movies: “The Tourist”

Darren Kincaid - Wednesday, December 29, 2010

Recently released in theaters on Friday, December 10, 2010, The Tourist is a suspenseful drama you don’t want to miss. Directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck and starring Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, Paul Bettany, Timothy Dalton, and Rufus Sewell, The Tourist tells the story of an American tourist named Frank Tupelo (Depp) who takes an impromptu trip to Italy to escape a broken heart. While there, he meets an extraordinary woman named Elise Clifton-Ward (Jolie) and begins what seems to be a totally unplanned harmless flirtation. But what Frank doesn’t realize is that Elise had planned meeting him, and Elise isn’t who she seems to be. Their brief romance takes a surprising twist when they find themselves involved in a potentially fatal game of cat and mouse.

What Happens When Turkey’s Play Football?

Darren Kincaid - Tuesday, November 23, 2010

What Happens When Turkey’s Play Football?

The pro football team had just finished their daily practice session when a large turkey came strutting onto the field. While the players gazed in amazement, the turkey walked up to the head coach and demanded a tryout. Everyone stared in silence as the turkey caught pass after pass and ran right through the defensive line. When the turkey returned to the sidelines, the coach shouted, “You’re terrific!!! Sign up for the season, and I’ll see to it that you get a huge bonus.” “Forget the bonus,” the turkey said, “All I want to know is, does the season go past Thanksgiving Day?”

We thought that you might like that story.  Here’s a funny video to top it off.

Official Peanut Party Friday the 13th

Darren Kincaid - Monday, August 09, 2010
South Carolina Boiled Peanut in Shell
South Carolina Boiled Peanut in Shell

Let the Peanut Party Begin!

Since 2006 Governor Mark Sanford sketched it in black and white that our official state snack is boiled peanuts.  Okay, We can live with that.  Those warm, soggy, can’t-get-enough-open-at-the-same-time boiled peanuts are invited to any luncheon or event that we host here at Abberly at West Ashley Apartment Homes.

It all started about 29 years ago, August 28th, 1982 with the first Peanut Party.  Back then it was only a one day event.  This year 2010 South Carolina kicked off the Peanut Festival with the SC Peanut Princess Pageant on July 31st.  The Official Party isn’t until Friday, August 13th and it’ll start with the ‘Blessing of the Pots’ along with with a dazzling performance from th Pelion High School Band.  There will be events going on all through Saturday the 14th.  So you can make a weekend out of it.

The 29th SC Peanut Party will be chopped full of carnival rides, music and live entertainment.  Al G.’s Roadhouse Band will keep our attention as Friday’s entertainment and on Saturday it’s truly an honor to have Black Cotton Biscuits bless our stage with their presence.

Here is the link for more information about the 29th Annual SC Peanut Party

Charleston, SC: Let The Job Search Begin… And Then End

Darren Kincaid - Tuesday, July 27, 2010

Now it’s time to get a new job in Charleston.  Not just any job, but the Charleston job you want.

The reason why you’re getting a job can actually bring it about sooner than using really cool search tactics and tricks.  Many articles about finding a new job focus on what you should do with your resume or how to persistently contact HR in a way that is only subtly annoying.  You do have to be creative in job searching and knowing what you want makes your search more concentrated.

But with all that,  reality may still greet you with: ‘over qualified,’ ‘we regret to inform you,’ or ‘not interested.’ If you keep in front of you the benefits of reaching your job goal then you keep your spirits high and keep pressing through.

One Benefit of Searching for a job is finding a job

One benefit could be getting out of the job search market and how sweet it would be to settle down in a well paying position where all of your bills are paid.  It’s a blessing to have more money left over at the end of the week and that thought alone is motivating.  When your ‘reason to accomplish‘ is strong enough knowing what to do is easy.

Abberly at West Ashley Apartments is moments away from Downtown Charleston, SC and the opportunities are wide open for a great future here.  And by the way Melisa… We like to network, of course we would write back ^_^
