Though I don’t believe that the physical book will become obsolete any time soon, I do know that with devices such as the iPad and the Archos 9, consuming information happens a lot quicker. That’s the biggest benefit behind many of these new internet devices; speed-of-consumability.
Many people like to have that “thud value.” Simply having the ability to hold a physical book brings enjoyment. I have a digital library and personally own more digital ebooks than physical books.
Where the colleges and universities are concerned, be prepared to change. More schools will be forced to provide digital products to the students or simply lose more and more cash flow. You may also take into consideration universities may begin to add this cost into the tuition to offset revenue.
